National Hot Coffee Day

Along with being a good time to start job-hunting, the day after Labor Day carries two other key distinctions: 1) Facebook is popping off with photo albums, many of which feature swimsuits, and 2) It is the annual date when I officially make the switch from iced coffee to regular. When the weather starts to cool down, you just can’t risk letting the combination of cool breezes and air-conditioning will render your iced beverage undrinkable.

Along with being a nice change of pace, there are a couple other benefits to the September 2 switch. Firstly, it means an end to that aggressive condensation that inevitably appears on the iced coffee cup, causing a mess and making me look like a fool. Secondly, it actually causes a slight downturn in coffee consumption for a couple weeks, thus freeing up funds for Vitamin Water and the like.

This phenomenon occurs because after months of drinking gallons of iced drinks, my standards for A) how strong a beverage tastes, and B) how quickly I can drink it are severely skewed. Eventually, I will regain my tolerance for industrial strength joe and start ripping through hot brews with reckless abandon again. But for the time being, I’m in a good place.

So, who’s with me? Shall we campaign to make this day official? I’m hollering at Dunkin’ Donuts HQ…
